About Torbay
Torbay is a small coastal locality situated approximately 20 kilometres west of Albany in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, and around 430 kilometres south-south-east of Perth. It falls within the City of Albany local government area and covers a substantial 102 square kilometres of coastal and rural land. With a population of 378 residents, Torbay has an agricultural and semi-rural character, with the locality formally gazetted as a townsite in 1910.
The Torbay area is noted for its natural beauty — it sits on the eastern fringe of the karri forest region, featuring large granite outcrops, white sandy beaches on Torbay Bay, and streams stained a characteristic dark amber from tannin-rich vegetation. The historic Torbay Agricultural Hall, opened in 1912, remains a community landmark. Families with children typically send them to schools in Albany via school bus, and the Woodbury Boston Primary School offers local independent education. Albany provides the full range of services, shopping, and healthcare for Torbay residents.
Torbay falls under postcode 6330 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Albany (South West) electorate.
