About Trunkey Creek
Trunkey Creek is a small historic village and rural locality in the Bathurst Regional Council area of central-western New South Wales, approximately 55 kilometres south of Bathurst and 130 kilometres north of Goulburn along the Bathurst–Goulburn Road. Covering around 68 square kilometres of rolling Central Tablelands country, it had a population of 118 people at the 2021 census. The village has its origins in the 1840s gold rush era and contains several heritage-listed buildings that reflect its pioneering history.
The village is known for its charming heritage streetscape, local pub, and proximity to the Abercrombie Caves—one of the largest limestone cave systems in the Southern Hemisphere—located 20 kilometres to the south. The surrounding farmland supports sheep and cattle grazing, with some properties also producing wool. Bathurst provides the nearest comprehensive retail, medical and educational services within a 40-minute drive. Trunkey Creek is a popular destination for tourists exploring the Central Tablelands, particularly those interested in colonial history and outdoor recreation.
