About Turrawan
Turrawan is a small rural locality in north-western New South Wales, located approximately 20 kilometres south of Narrabri in the Narrabri Shire. Covering around 84 square kilometres, it sits on the fertile black soil plains of the Namoi River valley. The locality is part of the productive agricultural heartland of the Liverpool Plains and Namoi Valley, with a very small resident population.
Turrawan is primarily an agricultural area with properties devoted to cotton, wheat, and cattle farming on the rich alluvial soils of the Namoi floodplain. The flat, open landscape stretches to the horizon with scattered stands of river red gums along waterways. Residents rely on Narrabri for all services including shopping, schools, and medical facilities. The locality is close to the Pilliga Forest and the Australia Telescope Compact Array near Narrabri, a landmark scientific installation.
