About Uriarra Village
Uriarra Village is a small, historic settlement in the Coree district of the Australian Capital Territory, situated approximately 30 kilometres west of Canberra CBD. With a population of 309 recorded in the 2021 Census — down from 349 in 2016 — it is one of the smallest inhabited localities in the ACT. The village holds a unique distinction as the only community title village in Australia, formally recognised and named by the ACT Government in 2012 after being rebuilt following its near-total destruction in the devastating 2003 Canberra bushfires.
Surrounded entirely by Canberra Nature Park, Uriarra Village offers a rare semi-rural lifestyle within the ACT, appealing to residents who value open space, bushland, and a genuine village atmosphere. There are no commercial amenities within the village itself; residents travel to Canberra's western suburbs for shopping, schools, and services. The above-average median income for the area reflects a demographic of established households drawn to the unique character of this rebuilt bush community, making Uriarra Village a genuinely distinct place to call home.
Uriarra Village falls under postcode 2611 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Murrumbidgee electorate.
