About Wattle Range
Wattle Range is a rural locality in the south-east of South Australia, situated approximately 25 kilometres north-east of Millicent in the Limestone Coast region, and around 328 kilometres south-east of Adelaide. The locality falls within the Wattle Range Council local government area — the council itself takes its name from this locality — and is characterised by primary production land use, with the exception of the Calectasia Conservation Park in the north-east corner. The name derives from the Wattle Range Community Centre, reflecting the strong community identity of the district.
The Limestone Coast is one of South Australia's premier wine and agricultural regions, and the Wattle Range district contributes to the area's extensive farming and dairying heritage. Millicent, the nearest service town, offers a hospital, schools, supermarkets, and cultural facilities, and is itself known for the Tantanoola Caves and access to Canunda National Park on the Southern Ocean coast. The Wattle Range Council governs a wide swathe of south-east South Australia including Millicent, Penola, and Beachport — a region celebrated for Coonawarra wines, coastal scenery, and a strong agricultural heritage.
Wattle Range falls under postcode 5280 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mount Gambier electorate.
