About White Beach
White Beach is a small coastal locality on the Tasman Peninsula in Tasmania’s south-east, administered by the Tasman Council and approximately 90 minutes by road from Hobart CBD. Nestled alongside Wedge Bay around 6 kilometres south-west of the township of Nubeena, the locality has a population of approximately 311 and covers about 31 square kilometres of rugged coastal terrain. It is one of the more populated communities on the Tasman Peninsula, alongside Nubeena, Highcroft, and Port Arthur.
White Beach carries a layered history as the site of the former Wedge Bay Probation Station from the convict era, and today sits just minutes from the internationally renowned Port Arthur Historic Site. The area offers a relaxed, semi-rural coastal lifestyle with access to Tasman National Park and its dramatic sea cliffs, blowhole, and bushwalking trails. Residents access shops, the primary school, and community services in nearby Nubeena, while the broader peninsula attracts strong tourist visitation year-round owing to its convict heritage and spectacular coastal scenery.
White Beach falls under postcode 7184 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Lyons (Prosser) electorate.
