About Wilora
Wilora is a small remote locality in the Northern Territory, situated approximately 370 kilometres north of Alice Springs in the Barkly region near the town of Tennant Creek. The locality covers around 3 square kilometres and recorded a population of approximately 59 residents at the 2021 Census. It is a small community on the Stuart Highway corridor, in the semi-arid to arid Central Australian landscape of open mulga scrub and red earth country.
Tennant Creek, approximately 90 kilometres to the north, provides the main services for the Barkly region including a hospital, schools, supermarkets, and an airport. The surrounding Central Australian landscape is remote and striking, with the Davenport and Murchison Ranges providing dramatic scenery. The Overland Telegraph Line passed through this area historically. A private vehicle or transport along the Stuart Highway is the practical way to get around.
