Woodburn is a small riverside town in the Richmond Valley Council area of northern New South Wales, situated on the banks of the Richmond River approximately 712 kilometres north of Sydney and 34 kilometres south of Lismore. With a population of around 743 residents, the community retains a quiet, rural character shaped by its long history as a river port and its position on the Northern Rivers floodplain. The town was originally known to the Bundjalung people as Maniworkan before European settlement began in the 1840s, and it was formally established in 1868.

Woodburn's main street offers essential services including a general store, hotel, and local amenities, with residents travelling to Lismore or Ballina for more extensive shopping and healthcare. The town was bypassed by the Pacific Highway in September 2020, reducing through traffic but encouraging a quieter village pace. The surrounding area is characterised by rich river floodplains, sugar cane and beef cattle farming, and easy access to the natural attractions of the Northern Rivers region including Evans Head Beach to the east.
