With a population of 3,265 residents and a median age of just 29, it is a notably young community covering 2.4 square kilometres. The suburb is characterised by a high proportion of social housing — around 60 per cent of dwellings are state or community housing — reflecting its origins as a planned public housing estate developed from the 1970s onward.
Airds is a diverse and multicultural community, with a significant Indigenous Australian population alongside sizeable Samoan, Lebanese, and Bangladeshi communities. Bus routes connect residents to Campbelltown Station on the T8 Airport and South Line, providing rail access to the Sydney CBD, while the Hume Highway offers a direct road route for commuters.
