About Ardeer

Ardeer is a compact multicultural suburb in Melbourne's western suburbs, located 15 kilometres from the Melbourne CBD within the City of Brimbank. With a population of around 3,200, the suburb is named after Ardeer railway station, which was itself named for Ardeer, Scotlandβ€”home to a major Nobel/ICI explosives factory whose parent company operated the nearby Deer Park explosives works in the early 20th century.

The suburb is split into two enclaves by Kororoit Creek, which provides natural green space and forms part of the popular Kororoit Creek Trail for walking and cycling. Ardeer has a diverse community with Vietnamese, Ukrainian, and Polish heritage reflected in local temples and churches. The area offers affordable housing close to the Western Ring Road and within walking distance of Ardeer railway station, making it practical for commuters to central Melbourne.

Ardeer falls under postcode 3022 and is governed by Brimbank Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the St Albans (Western Metropolitan) electorate.
