About Beulah
Beulah is a small agricultural town in the southern Mallee region of Victoria, situated approximately 395 kilometres north-west of Melbourne within the Shire of Yarriambiack. With a population of around 312 residents spread across a vast 658 square kilometre locality, the town serves as a quiet rural service centre for the surrounding dryland farming country. The township was proclaimed in 1891 following the subdivision of Mallee blocks, and the arrival of the railway from Warracknabeal in 1894 cemented its role as a grain collection point for the broader Wimmera-Mallee district.
Beulah is known colloquially as the 'Centre of the Barleybelt', reflecting the area's long tradition of dryland farming of wheat, barley, and pulses across the surrounding plains. The town retains a resilient community spirit and provides essential local services including a school, general store, and sporting facilities, while larger centres such as Warracknabeal (approximately 25 kilometres to the south) offer additional shops, medical services, and facilities. The surrounding landscape of flat, open Mallee country attracts those who appreciate wide skies, a close-knit community, and a deeply agricultural way of life.
Beulah falls under postcode 3395 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mildura (Northern Victoria) electorate.
