Billinudgel is a small historic town in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, located within Byron Shire approximately 15 kilometres north of Byron Bay and 10 kilometres south of Tweed Heads. Covering around 8.5 square kilometres, the locality sits near the Pacific Highway corridor and close to the coastal communities of Ocean Shores and New Brighton, with which it forms part of a broader coastal-rural cluster. The 2021 Census recorded a population of 261 residents, and with a median household income below the state average, Billinudgel attracts a mix of long-time locals, working families, and those drawn to the Northern Rivers' relaxed coastal lifestyle at a more affordable price point than Byron Bay.
Billinudgel is home to the much-loved Billinudgel Hotel, a historic family-owned pub and restaurant known as one of the Northern Rivers' most authentic country pubs, offering a beer garden and dining in a characterful setting. The area was once served by the Murwillumbah railway line, with a station opening in 1894, though the rail corridor has since been converted to the Northern Rivers Rail Trail, a popular cycling and walking route.
