About Camperdown
Camperdown is a vibrant inner-western suburb of Sydney, located just 4 kilometres south-west of the Sydney CBD within the Inner West Council area. With a population of around 9,381 residents (2021 Census), it is one of the densest suburbs in the country, packed into just 1.5 square kilometres. The suburb straddles the boundary between the City of Sydney and Inner West Council, and is defined by its proximity to the University of Sydney and Royal Prince Alfred Hospital — two of Australia's most prominent institutions.
Life in Camperdown revolves around its eclectic mix of students, healthcare workers, young professionals and long-term residents. Parramatta Road is a major commercial artery lined with cafés, restaurants and small businesses, while quieter residential streets offer a mix of Victorian terraces and modern apartment buildings. Nearby Newtown and Glebe provide easy access to an abundance of nightlife, live music venues, and weekend markets. Camperdown Memorial Rest Park is a beloved green space in the heart of the suburb, popular with dog walkers and picnicking families.
Camperdown falls under postcode 2050 and is governed by the Inner West Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Sydney, while state elections fall under the Newtown electorate.
