About Carwarp
Carwarp is a rural locality in north-west Victoria's Mallee region, situated on the Calder Highway approximately 30 kilometres south of Mildura within the Mildura Rural City Council local government area. The locality lies in the heart of the northern Mallee, a flat, semi-arid agricultural zone characterised by cereal cropping, prime lamb production, and almond orcharding. Carwarp is accessible by both the Calder Highway and the Mildura railway line, which have shaped the district since the area was surveyed for closer-settlement farms in 1911.
Carwarp became a centre of renewable energy and agri-processing in 2013 when Olam International opened the southern hemisphere's largest almond processing plant here, alongside a 35-megawatt biomass power station that uses waste from almond, grape, and grain growing. The locality also has a connection to Australian political history — Percy Stewart, a founding member of the Victorian Farmers Union (from which the Country Party, now the National Party, emerged), hailed from Carwarp. Mildura, approximately 30 kilometres to the north, provides all major urban services, and the Murray River is within easy reach for recreation and tourism.
Carwarp falls under postcode 3494 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Mildura (Northern Victoria) electorate.
