About Daly Waters
Daly Waters is a remote outback locality in the Northern Territory, situated approximately 590 kilometres south-east of Darwin on the Stuart Highway. With a 2021 Census population of 55 residents, it is one of the most famous roadside stops in remote Australia, known for its historic pub that has been quenching the thirst of overlanders since 1938. The locality sits in the tropical savanna country of the Top End south.
The Daly Waters Pub is a legendary institution, famous for its memorabilia-covered walls, nightly entertainment, and as a gathering point for outback travellers on the Stuart Highway. The locality is also notable for its historic aviation heritage — it was once a refuelling stop on the early England-to-Australia air routes. Katherine is approximately 270 kilometres north and provides the nearest comprehensive services. There is no public transport; a car is essential. The remote outback character and laid-back camaraderie of the pub make Daly Waters an iconic NT experience.
