About Edinburgh
Edinburgh is an outer northern suburb of Adelaide, South Australia, situated within the City of Salisbury local government area approximately 30 kilometres north of the Adelaide CBD. Created in 1997 on land originally acquired by the Commonwealth Government in 1940, the suburb has a population of 376 according to the 2021 Census — notably skewed toward males, reflecting its character as a defence and industrial locality. The area sits on the Adelaide Plains within the traditional lands of the Kaurna people.
Edinburgh is dominated by RAAF Base Edinburgh, one of Australia's premier defence establishments, which has been a major presence in the suburb since 1955. The Edinburgh Parks industrial precinct provides significant employment in defence-related industries and manufacturing. While residential amenities within Edinburgh itself are limited, neighbouring suburbs such as Salisbury and Elizabeth offer shopping centres, schools, and community services within a short drive.
Edinburgh falls under postcode 5111 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Taylor electorate.
