Granya is a small hamlet in the Towong Shire of northeastern Victoria, situated on the Murray arm of Lake Hume approximately 79 kilometres northeast of Albury-Wodonga and 380 kilometres from Melbourne. The locality spans around 98 square kilometres of mountainous country near the eastern boundary of Mount Granya State Park, and had a population of 88 residents at the 2021 Census. Set close to the Murray River where it forms the eastern arm of Lake Hume, Granya is one of the more remote settled localities in the Victorian Alps foothills, surrounded by state forest and granite ridgelines. The area falls within the federal electorate of Indi and the state electorate of Gippsland East.
Granya is best known to visitors as a scenic stop on the Murray River Road cycling and touring route, with the local hotel offering meals, accommodation, and a welcoming stop for cyclists and motorcyclists. Mount Granya State Park adjoins the locality and provides bushwalking, wildlife watching, and access to the summit with panoramic views across Lake Hume and the upper Murray valley. The nearest town is Tallangatta, approximately 54 kilometres to the southwest, where residents access everyday services and schooling. Corryong, some 63 kilometres to the north, is the main service centre for the upper Murray region. The area's economy is primarily based on cattle grazing and tourism.
