About Green Range
Green Range is a sparsely settled rural locality in the Great Southern region of Western Australia, situated approximately 370 kilometres south-east of Perth near the town of Ongerup. The locality covers around 470 square kilometres of broad-acre farming country in the wheat and sheep belt. With a 2021 Census population of approximately 62 residents, it represents the typical character of the vast WA grain belt — large farm holdings and very low settlement density.
Ongerup, approximately 20 kilometres to the north-west, provides limited services including a general store and fuel, while Albany (roughly 120 kilometres to the west) offers comprehensive services including hospitals, supermarkets, and an airport. The region is recognised for productive broadacre farming and occasional wildflower tourism in spring. A private vehicle is essential as there is no public transport.
Green Range falls under postcode 6328 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Warren-Blackwood (South West) electorate.
