About Huntley (Wollongong - NSW)

Huntley is a small suburb located in the City of Wollongong, situated to the west of Dapto in the Illawarra region of New South Wales. With a population of 66 people recorded in the 2021 Census, it is one of the least-populated suburbs in the Wollongong LGA, covering approximately 13.8 square kilometres of semi-rural land. The suburb was formally named by the NSW Geographical Names Board in August 2005, previously known as West Dapto or considered part of Avondale. Its name derives from the historic Huntley colliery, a coal mine within its boundary, which itself was named after Huntly in New Zealand by its original owners Illawarra Coal.

Huntley offers a quiet semi-rural lifestyle on the western fringe of Wollongong, with residents enjoying access to both Wollongong's coastal amenities and the bushland of the Illawarra escarpment. The area is part of the broader West Dapto urban release corridor, which is one of the largest planned urban growth areas in the Illawarra region. Shopping, schools, and healthcare are readily available in Dapto, just a short drive to the east. The suburb suits those seeking space and a quieter pace while staying connected to the Wollongong metropolitan area.

Huntley (Wollongong - NSW) falls under postcode 2530 and is governed by the Wollongong Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Whitlam, while state elections fall under the Wollongong electorate.
