About Jerrawa
Jerrawa is a small rural locality in the Upper Lachlan Shire of New South Wales, located on the north side of the Hume Highway approximately 30 kilometres east of Yass. It covers around 70 square kilometres of open pastoral country on the Southern Tablelands, with the 2021 census recording approximately 103 residents. The locality was historically served by Jerrawa railway station on the Main Southern line between Sydney and Melbourne, which operated from 1876 until its closure in 1975. Today it retains a quiet, agricultural character with a small number of sheep and cattle properties.
Jerrawa's proximity to the Hume Highway — Australia's busiest inland freight route — gives it reasonable road access to both Yass (30 km west) and Goulburn (50 km east). Residents travel to Yass or Goulburn for schooling, supermarkets, and services. The surrounding tablelands offer attractive grazing landscapes and cool-climate conditions typical of the Southern Highlands. There are no commercial services within the locality, and lifestyle buyers are drawn by the semi-rural character and easy highway access.
Jerrawa falls under postcode 2582 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Goulburn electorate.
