About Karalundi
Karalundi is a small remote locality in the Murchison region of inland Western Australia, situated approximately 20 kilometres south of Meekatharra in the Shire of Meekatharra. Covering just over 2 square kilometres, the locality is home to the Karalundi Aboriginal Community, an Independent Baptist community that has operated in the area for decades. With a population of around 65 residents, Karalundi is centred on its community school and mission, which provide education and support services to Aboriginal residents of the region.
The Karalundi Community Education Centre operates a school offering education from pre-primary through to Year 12, providing a rare resource in this remote region. The surrounding landscape is characterised by the arid red earth, mulga scrub, and dry creek beds typical of the Murchison goldfields country. Meekatharra, the nearest town to the north, provides medical services, fuel, and basic supplies for community members.
Karalundi falls under postcode 6642 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the North West Central (Mining and Pastoral) electorate.
