About Karragullen
Karragullen is a semi-rural suburb of Perth, Western Australia, located approximately 33 kilometres south-east of the Perth CBD and 16 kilometres north-east of Armadale within the City of Armadale local government area. Spanning around 30 square kilometres, the suburb is set in the Darling Range foothills and is predominantly known as orchard and market garden country. With a population of 395 at the 2021 Census, Karragullen has a long agricultural heritage shaped by Italian migrant families who established many of its orchards in the 1930s and 1940s.
The suburb borders the Canning Dam catchment area, giving it a lush, green character that contrasts with much of Perth's drier eastern suburbs. Orchards producing stone fruits and other produce remain a hallmark of the landscape, and second and third generation Italian-Australian families continue to farm the land. Armadale provides the nearest shopping centres, schools, and train connections, while Karragullen itself offers a quiet semi-rural lifestyle with excellent access to the Darling Range's walking trails, nature parks, and scenic countryside.
Karragullen falls under postcode 6111 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Kalamunda (East Metropolitan) electorate.
