Namoi River is a small rural locality in the New England region of New South Wales, situated approximately 400 kilometres north of Sydney near the town of Tamworth. The locality covers around 298 square kilometres of river flat and upland country along the upper Namoi River valley. With a 2021 Census population of approximately 61 residents, it is a sparsely settled agricultural district supporting mixed farming, beef cattle, and dryland cropping.
Tamworth, approximately 50 kilometres to the south-east, is the regional centre of the New England providing comprehensive services including a hospital, major retail, and the annual Country Music Festival. The Namoi River corridor supports both irrigation and grazing agriculture in the fertile floodplain areas. A private vehicle is essential as no public transport operates locally.
