About Port Victoria
Port Victoria is a small coastal locality on the western shore of the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia, facing the Gulf St Vincent approximately 190 kilometres north-west of Adelaide. The locality covers around 56 square kilometres and recorded a population of 397 in the 2021 Census, with 173 dwellings — many of which serve as holiday homes and shacks for South Australian families. It falls within the federal electorate of Grey and the state electorate of Narungga, consistent with the Yorke Peninsula's rural and coastal character.
Port Victoria is best known for its historic jetty, calm and shallow waters ideal for swimming and recreational fishing, and its role as a nineteenth-century deepwater port that once served the Yorke Peninsula grain trade. A small caravan park, boat ramp, and basic local facilities cater to visitors and the permanent community alike. The area attracts seasonal holidaymakers from Adelaide who come for the relaxed beach lifestyle, excellent crabbing and fishing, and wide sandy shores typical of the Gulf St Vincent coastline.
Port Victoria falls under postcode 5573 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Narungga electorate.
