About Ringarooma
Ringarooma is a small rural town and locality in Tasmania's North-East region, situated in the fertile valley of the Ringarooma River on the edge of the Blue Tier mountain range, approximately 89 kilometres north-east of Launceston within the Dorset Council local government area. With a population of 337 at the 2021 Census, the locality covers a substantial 203 square kilometres of mixed farmland and bushland at an elevation of 283 metres. Founded in 1882 as a private township by the Krushka brothers during the region's tin mining boom, Ringarooma has a proud pioneering heritage.
Today, Ringarooma's economy is primarily based on dairy farming and timber production, with a growing tourism sector drawn to the area's scenic river valley, Blue Tier forest trails, and historic landmarks including the Ringarooma Hotel — a central feature of the town. The Blue Tier plateau offers excellent mountain biking and bushwalking opportunities, while the Ringarooma River provides a serene backdrop to farm life. Residents enjoy a close-knit rural community lifestyle, with Scottsdale approximately 30 kilometres to the north providing essential services, and the coastal town of St Helens accessible within about an hour's drive.
Ringarooma falls under postcode 7263 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Bass (McIntyre) electorate.
