About Talawa
Talawa is a small rural locality in northern Tasmania, situated approximately 75 kilometres north of Hobart and approximately 25 kilometres south of Launceston near the town of Evandale. The locality covers around 13 square kilometres and recorded a population of approximately 61 residents at the 2021 Census. It occupies an elevated position in the Midlands farming country between Tasmania's two main cities, Hobart and Launceston.
Evandale, approximately 5 kilometres to the north, is a beautifully preserved Georgian heritage village listed on the Australian National Heritage Register, offering cafes, antique shops, and historical buildings. Launceston, roughly 25 kilometres to the north, provides comprehensive regional services. The surrounding area is part of the fertile Midlands pastoral district, known for prime lamb and wool production. A private vehicle is essential as no local public transport serves Talawa.
