About Samson

Samson is a small, family-oriented suburb located 14 kilometres south of the Perth CBD and just 6 kilometres east of Fremantle, within the City of Fremantle. With a population of approximately 1,881 residents (2021 Census), it covers just 1.1 square kilometres and comprises fewer than 40 streets and around 800 homes. Named after the prominent Samson family — including Sir Frederick Samson who served as Fremantle's mayor for over 20 years — the suburb was developed in the 1970s on the site of the former Melville Military Camp. Samson is characterised by a strong owner-occupier base (87.7%), leafy streets, and a quiet, close-knit community feel.

Samson offers a peaceful suburban lifestyle with excellent green spaces, most notably Sir Frederick Samson Park — the City of Fremantle's only Bush Forever park — featuring nature trails through jarrah, marri, and tuart woodland, picnic areas, and a children's playground. The suburb is home to Samson Primary School, with Seton Catholic College and Fremantle College also nearby. Residents enjoy easy access to Fremantle's vibrant café strip, markets, and beaches, as well as proximity to Fiona Stanley and St John of God Murdoch Hospitals. Samson appeals strongly to families and professionals seeking space and tranquillity close to Fremantle's amenities.

Samson falls under postcode 6163 and is governed by Fremantle Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Bibra Lake electorate.
