About Seddon

Seddon is a charming inner-western suburb of Melbourne, located just 7 kilometres from the CBD within the City of Maribyrnong. With a population of around 5,100, this compact suburb of less than one square kilometre has transformed from its working-class industrial origins into one of Melbourne's most desirable village-style neighbourhoods. Originally known as Belgravia, it was renamed in 1906 after Richard Seddon, Prime Minister of New Zealand, who once resided here.

The lifestyle in Seddon revolves around its vibrant village atmosphere centred on Charles Street. Excellent cafes, boutique shops, and the annual Seddon Festival create a strong community feel. The suburb retains heritage character with Victorian and Edwardian homes on tree-lined streets, while its proximity to Footscray adds multicultural dining options nearby. Seddon attracts young professionals, couples, and families who value walkability, character housing, and a genuine neighbourhood community within easy reach of the city.

Seddon falls under postcode 3011 and is governed by Maribyrnong Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Footscray (Western Metropolitan) electorate.
