About Valentine Plains
Valentine Plains is a vast rural locality in Queensland's Central Highlands, covering 458 square kilometres within the Shire of Banana, approximately 4.5 kilometres south-east of Biloela and some 585 kilometres north-west of Brisbane. Despite its large area, the locality recorded a population of just 373 at the 2021 Census, giving it one of the lowest population densities in Central Queensland. The landscape is characterised by open grazing country, cropping farmland, and the wide horizons typical of Queensland's central interior.
Agriculture — predominantly cattle grazing and grain farming — forms the backbone of life in Valentine Plains, with Biloela providing the closest services, shops, and schools for local residents. The locality holds a notable piece of WWII aviation history: the wreck site of a B-24D Liberator bomber known as "Beautiful Betsy" is located within the area, of interest to history enthusiasts. Life here is quintessentially inland Queensland — spacious, self-reliant, and shaped by the rhythms of the land.
Valentine Plains falls under postcode 4715 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Callide electorate.
