Wattening is a small rural locality in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, situated approximately 170 kilometres north-east of Perth near the town of Miling. The locality covers around 191 square kilometres of open cereal farming country and recorded a population of approximately 61 residents at the 2021 Census. The area is typical of the WA Wheatbelt, with broad paddocks of wheat and canola, sheep grazing, and occasional salt lake landscapes.
Miling, approximately 10 kilometres to the north, provides a general store and limited community services, while Moora (roughly 30 kilometres further north) offers more comprehensive facilities. Perth is accessible via the Brand Highway in approximately 2 hours. A private vehicle is essential as there is no public transport in Wattening.
