Westmar is a small rural locality in the Maranoa region of southern Queensland, situated approximately 460 kilometres west of Brisbane near the town of Tara. The locality covers around 503 square kilometres of open black soil and mulga country and recorded a population of approximately 59 residents at the 2021 Census. The area is part of the Western Downs agricultural zone, used for cereal cropping, cotton, and cattle grazing on the semi-arid western plains.
Tara, approximately 30 kilometres to the south, provides a general store, hotel, school, and community facilities, while Dalby (roughly 100 kilometres to the east) offers more comprehensive services. The surrounding Western Downs district is a major cropping region with brigalow and mulga scrub country supporting both dryland and irrigated agriculture. A private vehicle is essential.
