The locality adjoins the small agricultural town of Broomehill and is bounded to the west largely by the Great Southern Highway, which serves as the main arterial road through the region. Covering an area of around 537 square kilometres, Broomehill East is one of WA's larger but most sparsely populated localities, with 109 residents engaged primarily in broadacre farming.
Broadacre cropping — predominantly wheat — and sheep grazing are the defining industries of Broomehill East, and the locality is home to a Cooperative Bulk Handling (CBH) grain receival site.
