About Dandry
Dandry is a remote rural locality in north-western New South Wales, situated approximately 500 kilometres north-west of Sydney within the Liverpool Plains Shire and adjacent to the Narrabri district. Covering an extensive 697 square kilometres of flat to gently rolling agricultural land, the locality is positioned in the fertile Upper Namoi River basin, one of Australia's most productive cotton, cereal, and livestock farming regions. With a 2021 Census population of 65 residents, Dandry is a sparsely populated farming community in the heart of north-western NSW.
The surrounding landscape is dominated by large cotton and grain farms on the rich black soils of the Namoi Valley, with significant irrigation infrastructure supporting intensive agriculture. The regional centre of Narrabri, approximately 50 kilometres to the north-east, provides hospitals, schools, supermarkets, and access to the nationally significant Siding Spring Observatory in the nearby Warrumbungle National Park. Dandry suits farming families and those engaged in the agricultural industries that define this productive region of New South Wales.
Dandry falls under postcode 2357 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Barwon electorate.
