About Rocky Glen
Rocky Glen is a small rural locality in north-western New South Wales, situated approximately 490 kilometres north-west of Sydney within the Narrabri Shire. Covering around 391 square kilometres of flat agricultural country in the Namoi River basin, Rocky Glen lies in the heart of north-western NSW's cotton and grain growing district. With a 2021 Census population of 65 residents, this is a quintessential remote farming community on the Liverpool Plains fringe.
The locality's name reflects the rocky granite outcrops that punctuate the otherwise flat plains, providing distinctive landmarks in an otherwise open agricultural landscape. The surrounding district produces cotton, wheat, and supports extensive cattle and sheep enterprises on the rich black soils of the Namoi Valley. Narrabri, approximately 50 kilometres to the north-east, serves as the regional service centre with hospitals, schools, and shopping, as well as being the home of the Australia Telescope National Facility and the gateway to Mount Kaputar National Park.
Rocky Glen falls under postcode 2357 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Barwon electorate.
