About Jitarning
Jitarning is a small rural locality in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, situated approximately 220 kilometres south-east of Perth and 50 kilometres south of Narrogin within the Shire of Quairading. Covering around 440 square kilometres, the area recorded a population of 63 at the 2021 Census. The flat to gently rolling farmland is used predominantly for cereal cropping and sheep grazing, typical of the WA Wheatbelt.
The Wheatbelt is one of Western Australia's most productive agricultural zones, with wheat, barley, and canola grown across vast paddocks stretching to the horizon. Narrogin, to the north, and Pingelly serve as the nearest service towns, providing schools, supermarkets, and medical facilities. Jitarning offers the self-sufficient rural lifestyle characteristic of WA's agricultural heartland, where farming communities are tightly knit and the open landscape is defined by grain crops and native remnant bushland.
Jitarning falls under postcode 6365 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
