About Kulin
Kulin is a small agricultural locality in Western Australia's Central Wheatbelt, approximately 280 kilometres south-east of Perth within the Shire of Kulin. Covering a vast 320 square kilometres, the locality recorded a population of 352 in the 2021 Census, making it a thinly settled community in the heart of WA's grain belt. The economy is driven by broad-acre cropping — predominantly wheat, barley, and canola — across the flat to gently undulating country that defines this part of the Western Australian interior.
Kulin serves as the service centre for the surrounding farming district, offering a general store, primary school, hotel, sporting facilities, and the essential services a tight-knit rural community depends on. The locality is perhaps best known beyond the region for the Kulin Bush Races, an annual event that draws visitors from across Western Australia and celebrates the character of the Wheatbelt. Narrogin, approximately 100 kilometres to the west, provides access to a wider range of shops and health services, while Perth is roughly a three-hour drive for major needs.
Kulin falls under postcode 6365 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Central Wheatbelt (Agricultural) electorate.
