Covering around 151 square kilometres, the area recorded a population of 63 at the 2021 Census. The locality lies in the heart of the Victorian Wimmera, one of Australia's premier wheat and grain-producing regions, characterised by flat to gently undulating farmland and open skies stretching to the horizon.
The Wimmera is famous for its grain production, with wheat, barley, canola, and chickpeas grown across vast paddocks in the region. Murra Warra Wind Farm, one of Victoria's larger wind energy projects, operates in the surrounding locality, adding a modern energy-industry character to this traditionally agricultural area. Horsham serves as the regional centre, providing hospitals, schools, and comprehensive shopping, while the Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park lies to the south-east for nature and recreation.
Murra Warra falls under postcode 3401 and is governed by the Yarriambiack Council (Local Government Area). For federal elections, residents vote in the electorate of Wannon, while state elections fall under the Lowan (Western Victoria) electorate.
