About Kianga
Kianga is a small coastal town on the South Coast of New South Wales, situated immediately north of Narooma within the Eurobodalla Shire, approximately 344 kilometres south-west of Sydney and 66 kilometres south of Batemans Bay. With a 2021 Census population of 785 residents across 327 dwellings and spanning around 36 square kilometres, the locality offers a quiet beachside lifestyle in the heart of the Sapphire Coast region. The median household income of approximately 3,246 reflects the area's predominantly working-class and retiree character, with many residents drawn to the area's affordability and natural beauty.
Kianga is home to three beautiful beaches — Kianga Beach, Kianga Reef Beach, and Carters Beach — as well as Kianga Lake, which forms part of the Batemans Marine Park. The Narooma to Dalmeny Cycleway passes through Kianga, providing a scenic shared path along the coastline for walkers and cyclists. Residents rely heavily on neighbouring Narooma (just 2 kilometres to the south) for shops, a hospital, schools, and community services, and on Dalmeny to the north. Bus routes connect Kianga to nearby towns along the South Coast, though a car is the most practical way to get around. The area appeals strongly to retirees, fishing enthusiasts, and those seeking an affordable coastal escape on the NSW South Coast.
Kianga falls under postcode 2546 and is governed by the local council Council (LGA). For state elections, residents vote in the Monaro electorate.
